Your pet may be suffering from allergies if you find them biting themselves, scratching, sneezing, excessive licking, or a runny nose. As in any allergies, you pet may not show signes or symptoms while young, but can develop allergies at any age.
Due to allergins your pet may develop Atopic dermatitis. Atopic Dermatitis is a chronic skin condition that may be seen with redness of the skin, inflamation, red bumps, irritation of the skin. Atopic Dermatitis is the second most common skin disorder that pets experience. If not treated this skin disorder will worsen in time. This symptom may occure during certain times of the year, depending on what is blooming.
After taking a complete medical history and physical exam to determine the underlying cause of the skin allergies, it may be necessary to scrape the infected area or draw a serologic allergy blood test to determine what exactily your pet may be allergic to. There is no cure for allergies in dogs and cats, but they can be maintained and under control with the proper diet, and medication.
