Bath's

Picture
Pets need regular baths.  Dogs are not cats and they cannot clean themselves as cats do.  Its important to give your dog a bath at least every month.  Baths keep their coats healthier, and skin from irritation.  Some pets require a bath more frequently, especially if they have allergies, dermatitis, itching or pets with specific skin conditions. Ask your Veterinarian about medicated shampoos if your pet suffers from any of these conditions.  Bathing actually helps keep many of these conditions under control

You may think that too many baths may rid your pets coat of the natural oils.  If your pet has a oilier coat a more frequent bath may be needed as well.  If you notice that bathing drys out your pets coat, try using a conditioner, this helps restore the oils in your pets coat.

Nail Clip

Look at your pets paws. Are their nails too long? In a pets natural environment they usually run, climb, dig and many times on concrete.  This usually keeps your pets nails short the natural way.  But for the indoor pets that walk most on carpets and tile floors, and do not get the outdoor exercise needed for proper care.

Animals with toenails too long can cause several health problems over time.  The most important problem affects your pets posture and gait.  Walking incorrectly due to long toenails can also cause knee and hip issues, obesity, and behavioral problems.

Most pets do not enjoy getting their nails trimmed, some even require sedation to trim them, but either way it needs to be done, on both indoor dogs and cats.  Nail trimming for your pet is a vital part in their overall health. Your Vet clinic is equip with everything needed to keep your pets nails in tact.

Ear Cleaning

Picture
It is very important to look into your pets ears a couple times a month to check for dirt, irritation, or infections.  Examination of your pets ears and keeping them healthy could prevent larger and more painful problems in your pets future.

Look inside your pets ear for irritation, redness, swelling, discharge, wax build up or bleeding caused from infection.   If you do notice any swelling, redness, discharge from the ear, bleeding, foul odor or painful when you touch them its likely they do have an ear infection and will require treatment and medications from your Veterinarian.
Ear infections untreated can lead to hearing loss and permanent damage to the ear.

A great place to clean your dogs ears are in the tub.  Its a easy place to do clean up if a mess is caused from shaking their head.  DO NOT use q tips on your pets ears, cotton balls are the best. If you do not have ear cleaning solution you can use white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide and water solution to flush them out.

Put a small amount of solution in your pets ear and rub it into the base of the ear, your dog will want to shake their head.  After this, use the cotton ball to clean the inside of the ear as well as the ear lobe.

“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.
It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.”
